Infortrend Statement on RoHS Compliance

Infortrend declares that its products and sub-components have been designed and manufactured in compliance with European directives, RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and EU 2015/863 (the recast of Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances). Infortrend will endeavor to ensure that products are in compliance with the regulations.

RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and EU 2015/863

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive was revised as “RoHS II”. The Directive 2011/65/EU was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 1 July 2011. The new directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment replaces the old Directive 2002/95/EC. All European member states must implement the new directive by national law before January 2, 2013, and also implement the new extended Directive EU 2015/863 from June 4, 2015.

The key elements of RoHS II are as follows:

Annex II defines the tolerated maximum concentration of six substances in homogeneous materials. The provision applies to: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP).
Manufacturers must issue an EU declaration of conformity as set forth in Annex VI.
A CE mark is required for all electrical equipment covered by RoHS II.

Infortrend Statement on WEEE Compliance

Infortrend declares that its products and sub-components have been designed and manufactured in compliance with the European Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Infortrend will endeavor to ensure that products are in compliance with the regulations.

WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC)

The WEEE applies to companies that manufacture, sell, distribute, recycle or treat electrical and electronic equipment and to consumers in the EU. It covers all large and small household appliances, IT equipment, radio and audio equipment, electrical tools and telecommunications equipment. The Directive aims to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment and to improve the environmental performance of all those involved in the life cycle of these products.

Summary of the WEEE Directive:

The WEEE Directive was agreed on 13 February 2003, along with the related Directive on Restrictions of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).

The Directive is designed to tackle the fast increasing waste stream of electrical and electronic equipment and complements European Union measures on landfill and incineration of waste. Increased recycling of electrical and electronic equipment will limit the total quantity of waste going to final disposal.
Producers will be responsible for taking back and recycling electrical and electronic equipment. This will provide incentives to design electrical and electronic equipment in an environmentally more efficient way, which takes waste management aspects fully into account.
The WEEE aims to minimize the impacts of electrical and electronic equipment on the environment during their life times and when they become waste. It applies to a huge spectrum of products.
The WEEE encourages and sets criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment. It makes producers responsible for financing most of these activities (producer responsibility). Private householders are to be able to return WEEE without charge.

Conflict Mineral

Conflict Minerals are metals such as gold (Au), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), tin (Sn), Co (Cobalt), and Mica KAI₂(AlSi₃O₁₀)(OH)₂ derived from minerals being sourced from mines in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) conflict areas which are controlled by non-government military groups, or unlawful military factions. Illegal mining profits by local military groups in the eastern DRC are contributing to human rights abuses, environmental degradation, and theft from the country’s citizens. We understand that most of our suppliers do not have a direct purchasing relationship with mining companies. However, we have the opportunity to have a positive impact on this complex issue as a corporate citizen. To support this, we will:

take related measures to avoid using conflict minerals, including asking suppliers to conduct due diligence to confirm whether their products include conflict minerals.
take necessary measures to replace the conflict materials, if any, used in supplier’s product.

ErP and Lot 9

ErP is DIRECTIVE 2009/125/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 21 October 2009 establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy related products. Lot 9 is the implementing legislation for server and storage products for the ErP Directive. The requirements in Lot 9 begin on March 1, 2020 for all products sold in the EU from that date forward.
